How to Get Into Needle & Thread

Seattle's secret bar is hidden in plain sight, one floor above Tavern Law. Getting in is part of the night, the same discreet arrival that defined the original Prohibition-era speakeasy.

  1. Reserve your table

    Book on OpenTable for parties of one to six, up to seven days ahead.

  2. Walk into Tavern Law

    Come in at 1406 12th Ave and head to the back corner of the main bar.

  3. Pick up the telephone

    A vintage phone hangs on the wall beside the vault door. Someone will answer.

  4. Through the vault door

    The door unlocks. Walk up the stairs into the speakeasy.

  5. Tell us what you like

    Share your tastes with your bartender. Your first cocktail arrives in minutes.

First time? Staff downstairs will happily point you to the phone. The secret is safe with us.

The Needle & Thread Menu (There Isn't One)

There is no printed cocktail menu at Needle & Thread. Your bartender starts every round with a few questions, then builds something original from scratch, unlike anything on a menu in the city.

  • What spirits do you love?
  • Spirit-forward or citrus-driven? Smoky or bright? Rich or dry?
  • Anything you'd rather avoid?
  • Or would you like a riff on an old classic?

Every round is adjustable. If the first drink isn't exactly right, your bartender refines it until it is. We'll jot your order on your coaster, so you can take the recipe home.

How do I get into Needle & Thread?

A bespoke cocktail is built specifically for you, based on your flavor preferences. Your bartender asks about spirit, sweetness, acidity, and strength, and creates something original on the spot.
What if I don't like my cocktail?
Tell your bartender. Every round is adjustable, and the goal is to dial in exactly the drink you're looking for.

The room seats 24. Reservations are for parties of one to six; for a larger group, book the speakeasy as a private event for up to 36 guests.
Is there a dress code or age requirement?
No dress code. Needle & Thread and Tavern Law are 21 and over. Bring a US or Canadian government-issued ID, or a passport for international guests.
What's the difference between Needle & Thread and Tavern Law?
Same building, two rooms. Tavern Law is the ground-floor cocktail bar and dining room. Needle & Thread is the speakeasy upstairs, behind the vault door, with no menu and cocktails made to your taste.
