# Tavern Law > Craft cocktail bar and reservation-only speakeasy on Seattle's Capitol Hill, open since 2009. Located at 1406 12th Ave, Seattle WA 98122. Recognized by GQ (25 Best Cocktail Bars in America) and The Infatuation (number one speakeasy in Seattle). Tavern Law operates two distinct rooms under one roof. Downstairs, Tavern Law is a craft cocktail bar and kitchen serving elevated gastropub plates, primarily walk-in, with a limited number of tables released each day for parties of up to eight. Upstairs, behind a vault door reached by picking up an antique telephone, Needle & Thread is a reservation-only speakeasy with no printed menu, where bartenders build every cocktail to the guest's taste. Hours: both rooms are open every day, 5 PM to midnight. Both are 21 and over. Happy hour: every day, 5 to 7 PM, weekends included. Classic cocktails at $10 to $13, house wine $7, Asahi $5, and kitchen plates including the Tavern Burger, mac and cheese, and popcorn chicken at happy hour prices. Food: seasonal snacks, small plates and entrees, served until 11 PM. The full Tavern Law kitchen is available upstairs in the speakeasy. Drinks: sixteen seasonal cocktails plus a zero proof list, alongside wine, beer and after-dinner pours. A monthly Cocktails for a Cause feature donates 15 percent of each pour to a local nonprofit. Reservations: Tavern Law and Needle & Thread book separately on OpenTable. Needle & Thread takes parties of one to six, opens booking seven days ahead, and holds tables with a $15 per guest deposit that is refunded in full at seating. Tavern Law is primarily walk-in. Parties larger than eight are handled as private events. Private events: Needle & Thread seats up to 36. A full venue buyout accommodates 37 to 100 guests. Owners: Saulo Cruz and Kenneth Jones, since September 2025. Founded 2009 by Brian McCracken and Dana Tough.
